Letting in the Light

For me there may be no more powerful metaphor than the idea of shining a light in the darkness. Whether that is finding that light within us - seeing a light in the distance for us to follow - or the idea that we become the light for someone else.

That idea combines beautifully with what Rumi stated, "The wound is the place where the Light enters you." Or as Leonard Cohen said, "There's a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in."

A long held family secret was unexpectedly revealed at my dad's memorial. Eventually I would come to believe because of the revelation I was able to shine a light - and all that means - into the darkest corners of a secret and all that was contained there.
