The Mystery of Grace

Solo

When the idea of The Mystery of Grace came to me, I looked the phrase up on the Internet and discovered, not surprisingly, there were songs and books that used it as a title. Because I am so taken with the idea of the mystery of grace and because a title can’t be copyrighted I figured I was okay to find a use for it myself. I also found a quote from Anne Lamott that inspired me. She talked about how grace “finds us where we are but does not leave us at that place.” I added to that the idea that because of grace we are “moved in such a way that we may find ourselves amazed” and felt a chorus to a song was nearly complete. As a songwriter I do not often change the words to a chorus, but the final chorus in this song I changed to “arriving at this moment where the world must now embrace the mystery of grace.” My hope is that the change transforms grace from personal and individual to universal. My hope is that together this song and “Asking of You Now” will illustrate the importance and significance of grace.
