It’s been my good fortune to have been able to essentially do a few things for my whole career. I have written songs and stories, been a member of The Brothers Four, sung with my friend, Mike McCoy, and had a solo singing career. Individually and together those things have let me explore the world, the one inside me and the one in front of me. I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity. Those careers became joined in a unique way in the fall of 2010. There was a new Brothers Four album, an album of new songs for McCoy and me, a new solo album, as well as a manuscript I wrote about my family secret all finished and ready to go within a few months of each other. It was then I realized in many ways for the first time I was comfortable in each of those roles. The clothes all fit. Enough knots had been untied. Enough tangles untangled from each of those threads. I decided I might be able to spin those threads into yarns and weave those yarns into what I hoped would be a unique yet familiar tapestry. It ended up taking seven years during which time I lit 49 virtual campfires each containing a Campfire Chronicle and a Campfire Song. What I originally thought would be a journey of memory soon included one of discovery as well. Somewhere in the midst of lighting those campfires I came to think of them as Stories and Songs of Our Lives.
