This Little Light of Mine

It was my good fortune to be part of half a dozen intergenerational interracial visits to the American South where we visited sites, heard stories, and sang songs with those who were part of the Civil Rights Movement of the 50's and 60's. One of the things that impressed and amazed me was the joy they brought and continue to bring to their lifelong struggle and quest for liberty and justice for all. Their philosophy toward singing was and is if you can sing, sing loud. If you can't sing, sing louder. We did a lot of loud singing, on the bus or at places like Fannie Lou Hamer's garden spot where we sang one of her favorite songs, This Little Light of Mine.

A Circle of Song

Freedom at the top of our lungs
Letting this little light shine
