Over the years I've written a number of songs for my mom and my dad. For each of them and for them as a couple. "One Love and Two Lives" holds a special place. I sang it publicly for the first time at a Brothers Four concert in Spokane on Easter Weekend in 1997. It was the only time where I was the opening act as well as one of the headliners. That evening I dedicated to my "immortal parents" who were in the audience. It was a special moment.
The song took on even more meaning nine weeks later when I sang it at my dad's memorial.
The fact my dad died the day before my mom's 75th birthday felt like a cruel at the time. Over time those two days took on s special meaning. Pat and I would often make a point of being in Spokane on May 28th to celebrate my dad's life and then the next day celebrate my mom's birth-day.
In 2022, twenty-five years after my dad died and what would have been my mother's 100th birthday, Pat and I made one more trip to Spokane to honor parents' lives. It was a time to honor who they had been in life as well as who they became in death. A celebration of ONE LOVE AND TWO LIVES.
