Thankful
In the introduction to this song I say that in 1863 Abraham Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday of November to be a national day of Thanksgiving. I should have said “the fourth” Thursday of November.
It is something to think of a nation at war with itself taking the time to celebrate and be thankful. A hundred years later our nation stopped to be thankful four days after we buried President Kennedy. Even in grief there is gratitude.
In 1995 Mike McCoy and I designated the Monday after Thanksgiving as a time we would plan to be together. In a few days we will gather for the 18th time to remember the year we just shared and look forward to the year ahead and whatever happens to be grateful in and for that moment.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
