Asking of You Now

For a lot of reasons this song was a hard one to write. It took a long time before I felt that I got it right. I certainly believe in the importance of apologizing, asking for forgiveness when needed, and making amends when possible. The act is important whether or not the person we are apologizing to is ready to accept our apology and forgive us. There is also, for me, a mystery of grace that may occur between those asking for and receiving grace when both are open and ready to receive and to give. I also believe that often the hardest person to offer forgiveness to and receive forgiveness from is ourselves. I hoped in this song to have both those ideas play a role as well. It was also important to have the song be between the singer and an individual. That way I hope the listener can choose to be a listener to the “conversation” or take the role of the person asking or offering. The song ends with a musical interlude before the singer concludes with, “please forgive me if I’m asking too much of you now.”
