Dear Partner Letter #8: Love and Truth

Songs & Stories From Home Episode 68

LOVE AND TRUTH

May you find someone within you who is gentle and is strong
May you know a somewhere where you know that you belong
May life always fascinate you, may wonders never cease
May you find the missing peace
May you be one more time courageous than the times you are afraid
And may you be doubtful one less time than you have faith
May you get to know your demons and sometime set them free
May you find the missing peace

Chorus

Find the missing peace to every puzzle
Find the missing peace to all your wars
Share the missing peace that is in others
And be the missing peace that someone else is searching for

Dear Partner,

Spending lots of time these days creating these Dear Partner Letters. Sharing in songs and stories about what it means to be a friend for fifty-five years as we continue to sing our way down the road. These letters also celebrate the fact that it was twenty-five years ago you came out of the darkness and into the light, realizing on the deepest of levels that you could love and be loved. Something you learned not only in your mind but in your marrow.

This morning I awakened early with the idea that what these letters also celebrate is truth. Because when you realized that night that you could love and be loved you could begin to be true to yourself and true to those you loved. And the more you practiced living a life of love and truth, the more loving and true life became. For you and everyone around you. Love had transformed you, and truth had set you free.

In the next couple of Dear Partner Letters we’ll talk about events in 1983. They include the death of a friend. The loss of love. Dreams of success. Success redefined. Discoveries about family that needed to be tested and tempered to trust they were true. Lessons that love is transformational when attended by truth, and truth liberating when accompanied by love.

At noon January 20, 2021 in Washington DC on the steps of the Cathedral of our Democracy Joseph Biden will be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States. The truth is in the most scrutinized election in this nation’s history, President Biden received millions more votes than his opponent and won convincingly. The people had spoken. That truth was declared. Yet every day in the months that followed his opponent said the truth was a lie. Over and over and over again. Until enough people believed the lie. Enough so the Sacred Ground upon which this one nation stands was invaded by a mob who would make the lie the truth. And while it appears they failed, it is up to those who love what this country strives to be to make sure they do not succeed in making the truth a lie.

We are also in the midst of a health crisis as well as a crisis of faith. The pandemic can be beaten when enough of us acknowledge the truth of it and together do all we can to develop what is called herd immunity. Because like it or not, love our neighbor or not, the truth is we face this crisis together.

To develop herd immunity for this country’s spiritual health enough of us must acknowledge the truth that Joseph Biden is the duly elected President and those who say differently are lying. When enough of us accept and proclaim that truth and are governed by grace more than grievance and love more than fear this country may begin to find its footing, its soul, and peace. A peace it appears we are sorely missing.

May there be someone who knows you may you know them in return
May you find new ways of giving always something more to learn

May the world that you have hoped for in time be yours indeed
May you find the missing peace
May you welcome new adventure may you know you have a home
May you share yourself with others and share with yourself alone
May your need for faith diminish may your faith itself increase
May you find the missing peace

Chorus

May you find the missing peace to every puzzle
Find the missing peace to all your wars
Share the missing peace that is in others
And be the missing peace that someone else is searching for
